Hawkes Bay Dog Training Club trains one weeknight per discipline. Becoming a member of the HBDTC allows you to join any of these classes.

  • Monday: Flygility and Rally-O (alternate Mondays)

  • Tuesday: Agility

  • Wednesday: Obedience

  • Thursday: Scentwork

Agility is a high excitement sport where dog and handler must complete obstacles like jumps, tunnels and weaves in a sequence racing against the clock. It is a great sport to increase the bond between dog and handler

Obedience training ranges from very basic training, such as teaching the dog to reliably respond to basic commands such as "sit," "down," "come," and "stay," to high level competition.

The Black Hawk Canine Good CitizenTM (BHCGC) Test is a certification program that tests dogs in simulated everyday situations in a relaxed atmosphere. It identifies and rewards dogs that have the training and demeanour to be reliable family members as well as good-standing community members.

Rally-O is a great dog sport that can be enjoyed by dogs (and people!) of any age and ability. The dog and their handler are required to perform a different exercise every few metres.

Flygility is a dog sport that mixes elements of agility and flyball. The dog must navigate a line of agility obstacles by itself, fetch a ball from a flyball box and return back over the jumps and tunnels to return the ball to the handler.

A relatively new sport that uses scent dog training techniques similar to those employed to teach law enforcement dogs to detect narcotics and explosives, to search for distinct smells like clove oil.
